Real Estate And Home Construction Tips
NSANZE DANIEL
It is a homeowners personal responsibility to know about what is required in real estate matters, home construction can be a daunting undertaking if one does not do their homework. Many homes in America are made from dimensional lumber also know as stick-built. The lumber is cut to specific widths, thickness and lengths at the lumber mill and then distributed to builders who construct a home from blueprints drawn by architects. These materials allow for the building of a home easily using standard measurements and also allow for standard sized windows to be installed making the entire process go smoothly and requiring less labor costs in the end. Many materials used in the building of a home are based on standard measurements such as roofing shingles, nails, and concrete block. This all adds up to a faster end result and it allows one to determine the strength of the design. All buildings are built on a foundation, some of made from slabs of concrete and others are made on a basement of concrete blocks. They can be built on a grade and lifted off of the ground to keep the house level when a lot has a slope to it. From the foundation the walls and the floors are built. And on top of this the roof is constructed on the roof tresses. It is these measures of standards that keep a home structurally solid when built in an area that has severe weather conditions such as hurricanes. An architect will allow for this type of weather when designing a home. The rule of thumb when constructing anything is to measure twice and cut once to avoid costly mistakes. It is better to be safe than incur additional charges for extra lumber. After a home is built there is maintenance that needs to regularly be done such as checking the roof and gutters to ensure they are in good condition for winter rains and wind. There are screens that can be installed at the time a home is built to eliminate the need to clean out the gutters and ensure that water can flow freely down the drainpipes.Shingles need to be inspected, look for problems such as missing tiles, cracks and cupped or loose tiles. These are easy to repair and will ensure that there are no leaks in the middle of a storm. Also check the attic for any holes that you can see light coming through and plug them up.When building a new home make sure to use a contractor who has provided references and is licensed properly. It is best to see examples of their work and a copy of their business license. If they are using sub-contractors get that in writing and make sure they have insurance to cover the cost of any workers being injured on the premises.Working with an architect to design the home of your dreams is an exciting venture. Real estate is an investment in your future. Have fun with it.
